Why Finance Pros Are Making the Move
When Keegan left her role in corporate finance to join DraftKings, she knew she was making a pivot—one that blended her passion for problem-solving with a desire for flexibility, fast growth, and a more vibrant work culture.
Keegan started her career in traditional finance roles at well-known companies but she craved more impact and innovation.
“I was drawn to tech. Boston is a great tech hub, and my husband worked in the industry, so I started exploring,” she said. “When I found DraftKings, it just clicked.”
At first, she wasn’t sure if this would be the right fit for her, but once she met the team, and they started collaborating every day, she realized she found exactly what she was looking for. “Everyone was smart, welcoming, and really energized,” Keegan said.
Reimagining Finance—One Challenge at a Time
So, what does finance at DraftKings actually look like? According to Keegan, it’s not business as usual. “We’re managing compensation, expenses, and budgets at a company that moves incredibly fast,” she said. “That means we get to think differently—more strategically, more creatively.”
That pace? It’s part of the thrill. “You don’t come here to be comfortable. You come here to shake things up, to solve problems in ways you haven’t before. If you’re at a company where every day feels predictable, DraftKings will shake that up in the best way,” Keegan added.
A Culture That Surprises—and Delights
“One of my favorite memories here was our budget kickoff,” Keegan shared. “It was my first time really seeing all the puzzle pieces come together, meeting the broader Analytics and Finance teams. Everyone brought something to the table. You feel like you’re building something real—with people who challenge you and support you.”
She says that culture is fueled by diversity in thinking, experience, and, frankly, talented people who are passionate about their work.
Keegan enjoys a flexible work environment where she can work in the Boston office or at home. As a new mom, she says she enjoys the emphasis on work-life balance.
“Everyone on my team works hard, but we also respect life outside of work,” she said.
Advice to Future Teammates: Be Real, Be Curious
If you’re eyeing a role on our Finance team, her advice is simple: Don’t try to fabricate your knowledge of our industry; it’s okay if you’re not the biggest sports fan. “We want smart, collaborative people who care about growth and aren’t afraid to ask questions. This is a new industry for most people—curiosity goes further than you think,” Keegan said.
If you’re a high-performer who’s ready to level up, you’ve found your place.
“You’ll learn more in your first year here than you did in three years at a traditional firm. You’ll grow faster. You’ll see the impact of your work. And you’ll do it in an environment where people actually want you to succeed,” Keegan added.
