How Global Teams are Powering Our Sportsbook Technology

If you’ve ever opened the DraftKings Sportsbook app and wondered how every player prop market appears so fast, accurate, and tailored, the answer spans three continents and some of the sharpest minds in the industry.

Our teams in Sofia, London, and Las Vegas work across time zones to create data-driven experiences that shape the future of sports betting; one standout example is the Player Props Initiative. Through the combined efforts of teammates like Rob in London, Tim in Las Vegas, and Borislav and Tom in Sofia, the Player Props Initiative elevates the customer experience and drives results, proving when the best ideas meet the best global talent, products are built to win. 

“The level of detail we work with, like expected minutes played or percentage of snaps—is available publicly, but not in the depth or accessibility we require. So we engineer for that.” Tom, a Product Manager said. As part of this project, Tom owned the direction and delivery to make sure everyone understood what was needed. The goal? To fuel our trading models and give our teams the visibility they need to make real-time pricing decisions with confidence.

With models developed in London, tooling built in Sofia, and pricing operated by traders in Las Vegas, it is a true cross-continental team effort. 

“We’re building something that’s pretty cool and stands out from the rest of the industry,” Rob, Senior Manager of Data Science Engineering explained. “Formerly, we relied very heavily on third parties… and we wanted to get away from that… we knew we could do it better.” 

And the team did. Doing it better meant rethinking everything, from how the models were built to how data flowed across systems. Now, the live betting experience on our Sportsbook app is a key differentiator.

“It’s exciting to see all this working together, all these little parts intertwined, and making the product in a way that we deliver quality,” Borislav, a Senior Software Engineering Manager, said. “When I hear that something we built improved the customer experience…that’s what drives me forward.”

The Trading team takes real-time model outputs and applies on-the-ground sports knowledge to adjust betting lines.

“It’s been incredible to see all this expert-level knowledge come together to build this large-scale operation,” Tim, a Trading Manager said.
