Real Advice from Our Recruiters

Going after a new role is exciting, but it can also be nerve-racking. You want to stand out and talk about your experience in a way that shows interviewers you’re a great fit. So what really catches a recruiter’s attention?
We asked two recruiters, Anna and Alexis, to share their advice for candidates navigating our application process. Anna recruits for Analytics and Marketing roles, and Alexis focuses on hiring in Marketing and Operations.
Tailor Your Resume and Show Impact
Both recruiters emphasized customization. A generic resume won’t cut it. Pay close attention to the job description and align your experience directly with the role's requirements. If the position highlights specific experience, make it impossible to miss.
Recruiters focus on the impact you can make, not just responsibilities. It’s not enough to just list what you are assigned to do in your current role.
- Highlight what you improved, built, streamlined, or owned.
- Think results and impact, not task lists.
- Keep it clear and concise.
“This is not a life memoir,” Anna said. “This is really focusing on your highlight reel of what you've done, what you've accomplished, and really showcasing how that ties into the job that you're applying for.”
Do Your Research and Show Enthusiasm
Preparation makes an immediate difference. Recruiters appreciate when candidates take the time to understand our business, our values, and the specific role they’re interviewing for. You don’t need to know everything, but thoughtful, tailored questions go a long way.
Genuine enthusiasm for the role and the work you’ll be doing is something we notice immediately.
“We’re not looking for perfect,” Alexis said. “It’s really about bringing that enthusiasm and excitement for DraftKings.”
You don’t have to be a sports fan to work here, but showing interest in our growth, culture, and technology signals that you could see yourself here.
Confidence Doesn’t Mean Knowing Everything
Strong candidates come prepared, but they’re also honest about what they don’t know. Recruiters are looking for curiosity, self-awareness, and confidence in the skills you do have.
If you haven’t worked with a certain tool or scenario before, say that, and express a willingness to learn.
Interviews are about connection and a fit on both sides. It’s okay if you don’t check every box in the job description. There may be a role for you now, or another one down the road.
Bring your energy. Do your research. Focus on impact. Ready to join the team? Check out our open roles.
