Tell us about your journey at DraftKings.

Since joining DraftKings in 2019, my role has evolved significantly. I started as an individual contributor on the Financial Platform Product team, initially focusing on the customer wallet, balances, and financial reporting. This work was crucial as DraftKings prepared to go public in 2020. Over the past five years, I progressed to a managerial position, taking over the department in 2022. What began as a role managing a small team of two has expanded to leading a team of many talented individuals and managers.

For those unfamiliar, what does the Financial Platform Product team do?

Essentially, the Financial Platform Product team is the backbone of DraftKings' financial operations. Our work powers the customer wallet systems, handling all financial transactions across all of our products. From depositing funds, spending, winning, and through to cashing out back to the customer's bank account, our team ensures that these processes run smoothly and efficiently. This critical function, known as MIMO (Money In and Money Out), is essential for maintaining a seamless customer experience. In everything we do, we strive to improve and innovate continuously.

How does your team contribute to the bigger picture at DraftKings?

Our team is dedicated to owning the customer experience and removing points of friction. By actively using and living the product, we gain invaluable insights into what works and what doesn't. We leverage data and research to identify areas for improvement and re-envision solutions. This iterative process ensures that we continually enhance our offerings to meet and exceed customer expectations. Collaboration is key, as we work closely with various teams, including Product, Design, Analytics, Compliance, Finance, and Operations. These interactions ensure that we develop solutions that are not only effective but also compliant and aligned with business objectives.

Could you give us the scoop on any exciting recent rollouts?

One of our most exciting recent rollouts is the new quick deposit experience. This feature allows customers to deposit funds quickly and seamlessly, providing an embedded, first-class way to manage their money on-site. This foundational component is set to enable even more innovative experiences in the future, laying the groundwork for enhanced user interactions.

What’s the future of DraftKings products?

What excites me most about DraftKings is the dynamic and ever-changing environment. Each day presents new opportunities and challenges, akin to steering a sailboat into uncharted waters. The lack of a predefined playbook allows us to make a significant impact, navigate through untested solutions, and shape the future of our products. This constant evolution keeps us on our toes and ensures that our work is always fresh, innovative, and impactful.
