How to Stand Out During Your Interview

Alison is a Talent Acquisition Specialist on the DraftKings Campus team. She started in 2021 and works with undergraduate students for internships, co-ops, and full-time roles. In her time here, she's hired for various teams across the organization. Alison shares her tips on how to stand out before and during the interview process.

Tell Us About Yourself

Start with a general overview of who you are. If you're still in school, describe your year, your major, and your previous professional experience. If you've already graduated, be ready to describe your work experience concisely, highlighting your major accomplishments and quantifying your successes. Consider spending more time telling us about your most recent experiences.

Come Prepared

Be ready to answer why you'd be a good fit for the role you're applying for. If you're pivoting fields, be prepared to highlight how your previous experiences primed you for this new type of role. Discuss your work experience, but we may also ask for problem-solving scenarios and times you overcame interpersonal and project-based challenges.

Research And Ask Thoughtful Questions

You don't need to come into an interview with a comprehensive knowledge of the company. However, you should be familiar with our industry and products. Ask questions about anything you need help understanding or are curious about.

During your interview panel, don't ask every interviewer the same questions. Try to be specific with your questions, depending on the interviewer. For example, questions for your managers can focus more on their managerial style, while questions for peers can focus on their specific challenges or day-to-day.

Allow Room To Form Unscripted Questions

Allow yourself to form questions and answers based on what your interviewers discuss. Asking questions about topics interviewers mention shows you're engaged. Stay away from practicing answers or writing out your elevator pitch - we can always tell when you're reading off a script!

Speak About Your Strengths And Skills

Tell us about your previous experiences and highlight your best accomplishments and significant challenges. We can read your resume, but we want to hear you speak directly about your strengths, skills, and achievements. What can you tell us that your resume cannot?

Interviewing can often feel daunting, but it's an important skill to have and continuously improve. Remember, we're looking for team members who are willing to learn, curious, and eager to grow their careers at DraftKings.
