Combine Your Passions For Sports and Analytics

A little over a year ago, Jake found himself at a crossroads in his career. Like many people, he enjoyed parts of his career in corporate finance but realized this path didn’t align with his long-term goals. He wanted to find a role that would combine his two passions: analytics and sports. After doing more research, he discovered that the exciting world of sports betting could be a great fit. 

Calling Las Vegas home, Jake had a few Sportsbooks to choose from. He decided to bring his talents to DraftKings because of our market dominance and the overall company culture. 

“The growth of LIVE betting is huge,” Jake, now a Trader on our team shared. He talked about how we have a technological advantage over our competitors. 

“The amount of computing power that you need to be the frontrunner in this industry is massive,” Jake added. He’s someone who loves digging through the numbers and his work is an incredibly fun new challenge for him. 

Jake joined the team a little less than a year ago and focused on the Live Betting side of the Trading Department. He said he really enjoyed gaining such great experience right from the start, where about 70% of his time was spent LIVE trading games. He says the other 30% was spent on exploring our reporting tools and software, improving his skills, and learning more about the data. Jake recently switched to working more on the pre-match side of the house. 

One of the most fascinating parts of Jake’s job is his work with our complex data sets. “We have an insanely talented team of data scientists, everybody working behind the scenes to get that data available,” Jake said. He added that being a Trader at DraftKings is thrilling, challenging, and rewarding. 

It was the people that drew Jake in. He says everyone is supportive and everyone shows up to work with the motivation to solve the problems that impact the business. Jake believes that you need to own your career development from the moment you walk in on your first day. “The people that really want to push themselves are fully supported to do so,” Jake said.
