A New Era of Lottery Innovation

What started with one dad’s daily detour to the bodega became the spark for something bigger. Jackpocket’s founder, Pete Sullivan, grew up watching his father crisscross state lines to play his favorite lottery numbers—first in New York, then New Jersey. 

“We essentially looked at a way to think about how someone like my dad, who was not tech savvy whatsoever… how can we make it  more convenient and easy for him to engage with the lottery games that he already knows and loves?” Pete explained. 

After years of development, Pete launched Jackpocket in 2013, digitalizing the lottery experience and creating a highly successful product.

Fast-forward more than a decade, and Jackpocket customers can securely order tickets for Powerball, Mega Millions, state lottery draw games, and scratch—off games from their phones. After seeing the massive demand for the product in the last few years, Pete knew that in order to scale, the team needed the right company to collaborate with. 

Pete said the team wanted to find a long-term partner with whom we could grow and continue to innovate in this space, and DraftKings was the right partner. “We wanted to work with a company that had the best technology and the best product experience for customers.” 

Both companies also share similar values. People are fueled by the innovation and really feel ownership in their individual projects and team goals. Pete appreciates that shared culture now that Jackpocket teammates are fully integrated into DraftKings’ teams. 

The future? It’s about reimagining what a lottery experience could be. 

“We're about to revolutionize the lottery industry in the next few years with new digital touchpoints,” Pete said. “I'm so excited to be here at DraftKings to do so.”

Pete also emphasized the importance of the work our teammates are doing in our fulfillment centers across the U.S. 

“We could talk all day about how beautiful the product is, how seamless it is, but the operations at the fulfillment centers are mission-critical for getting the product right,” Pete said. His team is focused on creating career paths for people to elevate their hard work into larger positions within the company.
